Your OS #1 – User Interface

Part #1 of the mid-week #mikedrop series on finding your operating system

Each of us has a unique Operating System, no one can deny that.

Some of us have been told from a very young age to go out and be unique. Yet in every workplace there is a drive for uniformity, in production, in responses, in process, in every aspect of work.

How can we expect uniformity in a society that celebrates and pushes the independence narrative on us?

Just focusing on our strategy for making decisions that align with our energy and way of doing things, there are 5 strategies they can be broken down into.

  1. Do you often feel the need to inform others about your actions before taking them?
  2. Do you find yourself unable to get motivated until someone shows up requesting your help and then you jump into action and put a seemingly endless energy into your action?
  3. Do you feel unheard when you offer advice/input or take action without an invitation?
  4. Do you need to take time to reflect and discuss actions and decisions with friends and confidantes?
  5. Do you often inform others about your plans after deciding to act on something?

Each of these highlights different ways of engaging your unique Operating System and getting the best out of it.

Think about the people you lead and work with.

Do you notice differences in their responses to requests and their actions depending on who asks and how something is asked?

Are they pressed for an immediate decision or do they have time to think it through?

Are you directing or inviting a response/input?

Identifying the different Operating Systems that surround you can bring out the best in you and those you lead!

Reflect on the questions above and comment with which one speaks to you!
